Inspired partly by the recent uncovering of a seldom (if ever) used neighborhood acronym, NoProPaSo, for a Flatbush sub-neighborhood, usually called Caton Park, I take a stab at humor-- offering below some of the worst ideas I can possibly come up with for Brooklyn neighborhood acronyms.
NoProPaSo, a term that the New York Times recently used as if it actually was in common parlance, was originally offered as a joke. Brenda at Crazy Stable, the term's original author, responded to the NYTimes assertion by saying, "Gack! There is just one problem here: Absolutely nobody on earth calls Caton Park NoProPaSo except...me. As a joke in the blogosphere. A joke I shared, with broad eye-rolling irony, with a New York Times reporter."
So just to be clear: all of the ideas below are offered in jest. This may be my most direct route to fame!
FlaMiJu (pronounced Fla-mee-jew) = Flatbush Midwood Junction
A FoGre Pa = Around Fort Greene Park
BeChiBorPa = Between Chinatown and Borough Park
NoGaToBro = North of the Gateway To Brooklyn (that area just north of what we used to call Flatbush Avenue Extension where it meets the Manhattan Bridge.)
DUTTAH = Down Under The Third Avenue Highway or DUGE =Down Under the Gowanus Expressway
and, my most timely idea...
WeSTBAY = Was Supposed To Be Atlantic Yards

Just put a stake in the ground somewhere and eventually the Times will cite it as "neighborhood identity."
"WeSTBAY" is the best! Especially for those of us who've been around long enough to remember "WestWay", another big boondoggle which thankfully never happened.
Too soon yet to call "code" on AY, I suppose ...
